Patrick was riding a 2008 Honda motorcycle westbound on Sunset Boulevard when he collided with a Big Blue Bus negotiating a left turn from southbound Marquez Ave to eastbound Sunset Boulevard.
Marquez Avenue splits into two lanes east and westbound for vehicles coming onto Sunset Boulevard, with only buses allowed to make left hand turns from the stop sign on the westbound Marquez Avenue turn.
John Glasgow, a nearby resident whose apartment overlooks the intersection said that there are ‘frequent accidents’ near his building. Police are still investigating the cause of this fatal accident.
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2011 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 35 people were killed and 729 people were injured as a result of motorcycle accidents in Los Angeles last year.
In this case, it would be a good idea for Patrick’s family to preserve the motorcycle in its current condition. This will allow an expert to examine the damaged motorcycle and obtain important evidence allowing the expert to reconstruct how the accident took place. It will also allow an expert to examine the damaged motorcycle to determine whether any defect or malfunction of the motorcycle may have contributed to the accident.
If a dangerous roadway design contributed to the cause of the accident, then the city or the governmental agency responsible for the roadway may also be held liable. An experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer will be able to advise victims or their families in such cases about their legal rights and options.

As motorcycle accident lawyers in Los Angeles, we unfortunately see accidents caused by improper left-hand turns all the time. Far too often, drivers fail to pay attention to the road and to oncoming motorcyclists, turning directly in front of unsuspecting riders and leaving them no time to react or avoid an accident.
